Mark 5:1-10
Jesus encountered many demon-possessed people and exercised His authority over the death-like grip the demons had on their captives. This encounter in Mark 5 underscores the power and authority of Jesus to restore spiritual life from spiritual death.
Jesus takes the initiative in this healing, giving a command of release from death. The lead demon acknowledges the lordship of Jesus recognizing Him as the “Son of the Most High God” (v. 7). He bows before Jesus, begging Him not to interfere with their torture of the man. He is bold and we might wonder why Jesus spent so much time talking with him. This demonstrates the total confidence of Jesus in who He is and why He came: to give life.
There is a fascination today with zombies, vampires, and all manner of evil spirits. Too many are captivated and chained by a glittery, but false presentation of evil. Like Jesus, we must be unafraid to offer the opportunity to present true life provided by the Lord of Life!
