Deuteronomy 29:1-6, 9-15
It is sobering to know that the people of Israel experienced the astounding miracles of God firsthand and yet did not have the heart to perceive it. It is written that the Lord had not given them eyes to see or ears to hear. Why would He not? They are God’s chosen people. God led them through the wilderness with unlimited provision so that they would know He is the Lord their God. Why would He not give them eyes to see and ears to hear?
The only explanation is that they did not want to see or hear. They disregarded this extraordinary offer of the Almighty God inviting them into covenantal relationship, turning their backs on His faithful presence.
Yet, true to His steadfast character, God renews His covenant with the next generation and the next. The ultimate re-establishment of His covenant is declared through the death and resurrection of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, we are given eyes to see and ears to hear.
Let us take some time to praise God for the covenantal relationship He extends to us today.
