1 Corinthians 1:1-9

Once when a pastor toured a missionary children’s health center, his guide was one of the nurses. The hospital cared for children with birth injuries and incurable diseases. However, despite being surrounded by this tragedy, the nurse was lovingly encouraging to patients and staff.

After the tour, the visitor questioned his guide. “These children have suffered so much and it all seems so hopeless. But it doesn’t seem to bother you! After all, as a nurse you’re trained to successfully treat and heal your patients, not see them die.” The nurse replied, “Pastor, when the Lord called me to minister to these children He did not call me to be successful. He called me to be faithful.”

Human success is fleeting and impermanent; God’s success is enduring and eternal. Also, while human success is never certain, then we can depend on success with God because He is faithful. That means He is reliable and even if we stray, He never forsakes us. His faithfulness makes all the difference. Heed the words of the Spirit, even when others don’t understand.
