The Repentant Finds Mercy

Proverbs 28:6-14

When an innocent person is wrongly accused, convicted, imprisoned, and then pardoned, we celebrate that justice has been served for the convict. When a guilty person is rightly accused, convicted, imprisoned, and then pardoned we say that mercy was shown. The guilty one was spared from what they deserve.

We’re all guilty. We’ve all broken God’s laws. We’ve all sinned and deserve to spend eternity separated from God because of our choices. If it weren’t for God’s mercy, that’s exactly what would happen, and rightfully so. To try to conceal or deny our guilt would be the ultimate act of futility.

However, there’s great news for those who truly change their ways. By turning from sin to follow God’s upright, righteous, and holy ways, we’ll find and celebrate His mercies. Our pardon is motivated by God’s love, secured by Christ’s sacrifice, received and sustained by our faith in Him.
