Isaiah 11:6-10
There are around 200 recognized countries in the world. Each of them has a flag that represents the respective government. Each flag is unique. Flags adorn government buildings, athletic events, identify the military and law enforcement, and are often used as patriotic décor.
Flags serve an important purpose. Not only do they identify the entity for which they stand, but they express the authority of the governing body and the pride of the people. It is the summation of all that the country represents, flying high in good times and bad.
The prophet Isaiah prophesied that God’s people would have a flag of sorts, a banner to which they would rally, finding strength and comfort. For those of us who claim citizenship in heaven, Christ is our Banner.
Clinging to this Banner expresses our desire to submit to Christ’s authority in our lives and our need for His saving grace.
