Ephesians 5:1-10
When you were little, I imagine you expected to grow up to be like your mom or dad, or perhaps a grandparent or special adult in your life. Maybe you dreamed of one day following in their footsteps and doing the same job or joining the family business.
In the same way, Paul invites us to imitate God. In doing so, our life will be characterized by love, a love so appealing that it will be fragrant, like a bouquet of freshly cut flowers. Our life of love will reflect the light of purity and praise. Paul gets specific and warns us against sexual immorality, impurity, greed, obscenity, and coarse talk. At the heart of it all, Paul warns, is idolatry.
Paul calls us to bring light into the darkness. Then the fruit growing in our lives will be goodness, the righteousness of God, truth, wisdom, and understanding.
When you lived in darkness, you were darkness. As you live in the light, you become light. Imitate God, and reflect the light of God’s love.
