Job 22:21-30
Many of us have experienced well-meaning friends who suggest that the current troubles or difficulties we are experiencing must be due to a lack of faith, some form of disobedience, or lack of trust in God.
Job, experienced the same from his friend Eliphaz. He tried to figure out Job’s predicament and lay out a course of action for Job to return to God. Eliphaz’s suggestions are noble. Job is to transform his desire so that God becomes his source of pleasure. Job’s relationship with God is to be moved from alienation to intimacy and trust. He’s to lift up his face (which signifies trust) and repent in order to restore intimacy with God.
Finally, Eliphaz concludes his speech suggesting Job’s ability to intervene on the behalf of sinners. Does Job have the ability to draw from his own uprightness in order to save the guilty?
What areas of our lives do we need to allow God to change and redeem in order to restore our trust in him? How can we intercede and stand in the gap for the non-innocent?
